I know I'm personally pretty done with IRC and I'd appreciate a SC Discord server, though I'm apprehensive to join OP's one because you say it isn't going to be supported. It isn't necessarily a splitting of the users, because you'd likely have people join the Discord who would never join the IRC in the first place, and vice-versa. I don't know the situation with the /r/steamcontroller IRC, since I've never used it, but if it is similar, I'd suggest at the very least creating an 'official' Discord. We'd been using the IRC for a year or two, with little to no actual conversations aside from the the occasional random person coming in to ask one of the idle'ers a question or two and then never returning. We had this same situation with the /r/distance IRC when Discord initially started gaining popularity. The channel is already very quiet, so why start over and end up with two separate channels that are both just as quiet, or more likely, even quieter because now the potential users are split between them.
